FascismUSA's newsroom maintains the only continuously updated open index of 1,400+ extremist organizations operating across the United States. Each entry is double-sourced, legal-reviewed, and stamped with the date a human editor last verified the record. This is the working archive that journalists, federal investigators, defense attorneys, and university libraries cite when the record has to hold up.

By Organization Type
Twenty-one typologies covering militant accelerationist networks, white separatist compound communities, paramilitary training collectives, identitarian think tanks, pseudolegal sovereign-citizen groups, and twelve further classifications. The typology was co-developed in 2018 with the Program on Extremism at George Washington University and is updated annually.

By State and Federal District
All fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories. Each state-level view aggregates active chapters, defunct chapters, known financier addresses, and the most recent field-reporting date from our 60-person stringer network.

By Founded Year
Date-of-founding metadata back to 1948, cross-checked against incorporation filings, IRS Form 990-EZ submissions where available, and historical press coverage. Refounding events (splits, mergers, name changes) are logged as separate timeline entries on each record.

By Threat-Tier Classification
Four classifications — Active-Investigative, Monitored, Dormant, and Disavowed — assigned by the editorial team and reviewed quarterly. Active-Investigative designations are reviewed by outside legal counsel before publication. The classification methodology is published in full on our Methodology page.

Methodology · A Note for Editors and Counsel
How a record enters the archive — and what stands behind it.
Every entry in the database is built to the same five-step standard. The process was developed by our co-founders during their tenure at the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project, refined across eight years of publication, and stress-tested against four separate defamation actions — all of which were dismissed before discovery.
1. Identification
A candidate organization enters our pipeline through one of three routes: direct field reporting by our staff or 60-person stringer network; FOIA-derived government records; or a peer-reviewed referral from a partner institution (the Anti-Defamation League, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Program on Extremism at GWU). Anonymous tips are not, on their own, sufficient grounds for inclusion.
2. Double-Sourcing
Every factual claim on every record is supported by at least two independent sources. Acceptable source types include court filings, incorporation documents, IRS filings, on-the-record statements, signed manifestos, authenticated chat logs, and direct field observation. Single-source claims are flagged in the record's metadata and never appear in the public dossier.
3. Legal-Counsel Review
All Active-Investigative classifications and any record naming a private individual are reviewed by outside First Amendment counsel before publication. Our standing legal review is conducted by the Media Law practice at Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, LLP. The review checklist is published in full on our Methodology page.
4. The 72-Hour Refresh Cadence
Every record carries a verification timestamp. When a verified event alters the record — a leadership change, a federal indictment, a chapter opening or closing, a name change, a formal dissolution — the editorial team updates the entry within 72 hours. The verification timestamp is updated even when the underlying facts are unchanged, signaling that a human editor has confirmed the record still stands.
5. The 28-Month Retraction Record
Across the trailing 28 months, we have published 1,180 dossiers and zero retractions. We publish our correction log in full, including the date, the nature of the correction, and the editorial staff member responsible. The complete correction log is available on our Methodology page.
